Introducing Library League: A Monthly Program for Readers of All Ages By Hilary Misle

We’re excited to introduce Library League, a monthly program at the American Library of the International Institute in Spain. Young readers and their families are invited to explore books, develop research skills, and engage in interactive literacy activities. Each month, Library League members will embark on new adventures designed to foster a lifelong love of reading, curiosity, and creativity. With tailored activities for every age group, there’s something for everyone in the Library League!
In our introductory chapter of Library League, we will celebrate America’s National Picture Book Month and Family Literacy Month with a journey through illustrations, inviting participants to experience the magic of narratives. Our teacher librarian, Hilary, will guide children and families along a creative adventure as they ponder the power of illustrated books.
Here’s a look at the Library League teams:
Little League Librarians (Ages 4-5)
One Friday per month
Our youngest Library League members are invited to explore the magic of books through playful activities and engaging stories. These sessions introduce foundational literacy concepts and library etiquette, creating a fun and supportive environment for early readers.
Library League Juniors (Ages 6-8)
One Saturday per month
In Junior Library League, children begin to navigate the library independently, learning about different book sections, genres, and how to choose books that are “just right.” Interactive read-alouds and book care activities encourage their growing curiosity.
Library League Explorers (Ages 9-11)
One Saturday per month
For older elementary students, Library League Explorers offers an adventurous library experience. Explorers dive into genres, author studies, and basic research, enjoying hands-on activities like mock book awards, scavenger hunts, and catalog use.
Library League Scholars (Ages 12-14)
One Friday per month
Library League Scholars sessions are crafted for middle schoolers eager to deepen their exploration of books and research. Scholars learn advanced research skills, examine literature awards, and engage in meaningful discussions, fostering critical thinking and confidence.
Library League Ambassadors (15-17)
One Friday per month
For our oldest members, Library League Ambassadors offers leadership opportunities within the library community. Teens can participate in peer mentoring, volunteer projects, and in-depth literature exploration, shaping their library experience and making a positive impact.
Family Library League
For families eager to discover the library together, Family Library League offers occasional special sessions for parents and kids to dive into stories, explore literature, and enjoy hands-on activities. These events create opportunities for families to bond over books and learn together in a welcoming space.
Join the Library League (you can sign up every month from the Agenda) and help us begin this new chapter of exploration, imagination, and connection within our library community. Together, we’ll open new doors to knowledge, creativity, and discovery — one monthly adventure at a time!
