Come and enjoy an IIE/ASM activity that is perfect for the entire family. Julie Taymor’s adaptation of «The Magic Flute,» shortened for younger audiences, is a magical and exciting way to introduce children to the wonder of opera. The screening will be preceded by a brief introductory activity presented by Trisha Ballsrud, facilitator of the «Reading Alive,» «Storytelling for Schools,» and «Cuentacuentos en inglés» series of activities at the IIE library.
There is undeniable magic in the Metropolitan Opera’s family-friendly version of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”: in its wildly imaginative, puppet-filled staging by Julie Taymor; in its fairy tale of a knight on a quest to win the woman of his dreams while attaining enlightenment; in its snappy and colloquial English adaptation by J.D. McClatchy.
